Fall Fun

Scarecrows sitting on front porches, pumpkins perfectly carved lighting a path, and the slow drop in the temperature outside can mean only one thing. The fall season has arrived in Mountain Home and the Twin Lakes area.

During this time of year, we start to see a number of fall festivals hosted by towns, churches, and organizations throughout the Twin Lakes area. Some festivals are brand new while others are an annually held local tradition. Here are a few festivals you may want to check out for yourself.

October 6th – 9th – Ride the Ozarks – Harrison, AR

October 7th – 8th – 71st Annual Turkey Trot – Yellville, AR

October 22nd – 3rd Annual ROCK-toberfest – Harrison, AR

October 28th – 29th – 34th Annual Bean Fest & Great Arkansas Championship Outhouse Races – Mountain View, AR

Because of the beautiful weather early fall brings to the area, many groups and organizations take advantage and host events outside. Check out some of these local fundraisers.

October 8th - Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Walk-a-Thon – Serenity Inc., Mountain Home, AR

October 22nd – Wurst Party Ever - Schliemann Center, Mountain Home, AR

October 29th – Halloween 5K – Baxter Regional Healthcare, Mountain Home, AR

November 5th – 6th  - Frosty Fest – The Sheid at ASUMH, Mountain Home, AR

You simply cannot write about fall and the month of October without writing about Halloween. This is one of the greatest areas in the state of Arkansas for Halloween and trick-or-treating. Like the beginning of a Halloween movie, kids in costumes line the streets of neighborhoods going door to door. Many churches, businesses, and organizations will offer fun games and no-traffic trick or treating throughout the area. Look for postings in local businesses and newspapers as the holiday approaches.

October 21st – 22nd – 6th Annual Haunted Hollow Hayride – Bull Shoals, AR

October 22nd – Trunk-or-Treat at Cooper Park (6:00 to 9:00 pm) – Mountain Home, AR

October 28th – 30th – Twin Lakes Thunder Rally – Mountain Home, Arkansas

October 31st – Neighborhood Trick-or-Treating – Mountain Home and surrounding areas.

After a long, hot summer filled with swimming, boat rides, and sunsets, it’s time to add a light jacket and scarf before heading out to enjoy all the fall festivals, fundraisers, and of course, spooky Halloween bonfires and trick-or-treating this area has to provide. For more information on safety measures you and your family can take to have a safe and fun trick-or-treating experience, read over the Baxter County Sherriff’s Office safety tips for costumes and traveling through neighborhoods on such a busy and lively holiday.
