The end of the year means many things for many people. It’s a time to reflect on the events that have transpired over the year. For many, it’s a time to gather with family and friends…especially the ones you haven’t seen for a while. It’s also a time to enjoy the holiday spirit in the air as people prepare and gather for traditional and non-traditional celebrations. If you are having a difficult time getting into the swing of things this season, then check out our list of things you can do right here in Mountain Home over the holidays.

Instead of adding more and more items to your closet and home, go through and donate items that you haven’t used within the last year. Not only will you create more space for newer items you may receive, but you may also be helping local charities that need new or gently used items this season.

You can also support many local charities in giving this season by offering monetary donations or “adopting” a child during the holidays. Some of the local groups who could use your donations are Students4Students, the Salvation Army (Angel Tree), and Operation Christmas Wish. This is just a small example of the charities needing donations. It is always good to check with schools, hospitals, churches, and the newspaper to discover more charitable organizations in the area.

Not everyone has money or things to give away, but time is something we all have. There are many charities and organizations around the area that are always in need for volunteers. The need for volunteers is especially high during the holidays. Some area groups who may need your assistance are the Humane Society, the Salvation Army’s Bell Ringer Service, and the local hospitals and library. Since our area thrives on the dedication of our volunteers, there are several places in need. You could look on Facebook, Google, or ask some of the organizations listed above if you would like to help this holiday season.

Very few people can get through the holidays without buying a single thing. When you do decide to venture out into the crowds this season, check out our local businesses. Mountain Home has a large selection of boutiques, spas, and other specialty stores throughout the area.

Need to find an address? Check out the business directory on our website.

If you have done all of the things listed above, and you are still lacking the holiday spirit, try decorating. Go all out and become the Clark Griswold of your neighborhood. Adding twinkling lights, themed displays, and even timed music can even cheer up the Grinch.
