It was a successful weekend at the Dallas Travel and Adventure Show! We handed out hundreds of our Visitor and Relocation Guides and shared with guests about our wonderful community. We visited with several travel agents who stated that they are seeing more people looking to vacation closer to home and showed great interest in our area. The two-day show had over 15,000 attendees. A special thank you to Denali Rods for donating a rod for our door prize.

The heart of any community lies in strong volunteer spiritand the Mountain Home Area Chamber is no different. We are currently looking to grow our volunteer team. There are various roles and responsibilities, but the main qualifier is love of community and willingness to devote time to the Chamber and our members. As a Chamber volunteer you will meet new people, share your knowledge about our area and promote the growth of our community. Volunteerism has many proven benefits such as increased self-confidence, a sense of purpose and decreased risk of depression. If you are interested involunteering with the Chamber of Commerce, please contact Angela at 425-5111.

On March 9th our Leadership Mountain Home class learned about industry and economic development in our area. The day started with a tour of Baxter Healthcare, one of Mountain Home’s top employers. Baxter makes dialysis kits that millions of patients and healthcare professionals rely on. The next stop was at Eaton. The Eaton tour took us through the process of making a hose. Eaton in Mountain Home makes over 600 varieties of high pressure hoses. Over lunch the class visited with our very own Chamber President, Jeff Pipkin, to talk about economic development in our area. The final stop of theday was at Bass Cat Boats. We were able to see the boat building process from start to finish.

The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce will be represented at the Travel and Adventure Show in Dallas this weekend. Dallas is in our top three areas for website hits and we are excited to be promoting our beautiful Mountain Home to the Dallas area.

Despite the rain last week, the Leadership Mountain Home group had a great trip to Little Rock for Arkansas Day. We arrived at the state capitol on Wednesday morning for a photo with Governor Asa Hutchinson. Governor Hutchinson invited us to his office to visit with the group and allow for questions. After a tour of the capitol, Senator Scott Flippo met us in the Senate Chamber. Representative Nelda Sparks joined our group at lunch. From the capitol we went to the Old State House Museum where we had a guided tour of our first capitol building and its history. The last stop of the day was at Heifer International, a charity organization working to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities. Day two of our trip we toured the USS Razorback at the Arkansas inland Maritime Museum. The final stop of our trip was to Central High School. Our tour guide shared the history of Central High and the role it played in the desegregation of public schools in the United States. Next month the Leadership class will focus on Industry and Economic Development. Applications for the 2018-2019 Leadership Mountain Home class are now available.
