Kids complete 25.2 miles prior to race day using the Little Rockers Kids Marathon Training Program. Participants have several months to complete the miles on their own or through their school (if their school is officially participating in the program) by running, jogging or walking. On March 4, 2017, all participants finish their marathon as they run the last mile of the actual course and cross the official Little Rock Marathon finish line. The mission of the Little Rockers Kids Marathon is to provide participants ages 7-12 with the opportunity to enhance their physical activity while focusing on reaching a goal. We hope to motivate children to commit to a health and fitness routine and experience the overall rewards of achieving their goals, not only in crossing the finish line but in life as well. HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO HOLD “BAXTER COUNTY DAY” OPEN HOUSE MARCH 26 The Baxter County Historical Society invites the public to observe and celebrate “Baxter County Day” in a free Open House at the Heritage Center, 808 S. Baker Street, on Sunday, March 26, between the hours of 1-4 p.m. Baxter County was formed 144 years ago on March 24, 1873. “The Society hopes to make ‘Baxter County Day’ an annual event,” says David Benedict, Society President, “and we plan to highlight a different part of the county’s history each year.” Those who attend the Open House will be able to view the museum’s current exhibits and learn about the work of the Historical Society. “As an added treat,” says Benedict, “we’ll serve ice cream sundaes to visitors at our Open House event.” The special museum feature this year will be an exhibit of World War I military equipment, uniforms and memorabilia on loan from local WWI re-enactor Charles Hammett. “Charlie is an avid collector and an experienced re-enactor of WWI,” says Benedict, “and we really appreciate that he is making a number of items available for the exhibit, since the United States first entered that conflict 100 years ago in April.” The World War I exhibit will actually run for two weeks beginning on Tuesday, March 13 and continuing through the Open House on March 26. The public is invited to come view the exhibit as well as other museum and archives holdings of the Society.
