“Old Galatia Church, Preserving Our Past” by Linda Bradbury will be the topic at the next Baxter County Historical & Genealogical Society meeting on Tuesday, August 28 at 6:00 pm in the Knox Room of the Donald W Reynolds Library, 300 Library Hill, Mountain Home.
Linda Bradbury was born near the Old Galatia Church and Cemetery, and now lives near the church. Linda states, “My grandpa raised his family living on a farm behind the church and cemetery, with many family funerals held in the church building and buried in Galatia Cemetery. The building is over 110 years old and in need of repair. I put together this book, Old Galatia Church, Preserving Our Past, as a fund raiser for hopefully restoring the building.”
This book has the history of the beginning of the cemetery and church, with lots of pictures of local people that are buried in Galatia Cemetery. The books are $30. and $5. extra if it is mailed. Anyone that might want a book can call Linda Bradbury at 870-499-7148. There will also be books to sell at the Historical Soc. meeting at the library, August 28.
The church has been approved to be placed on the Arkansas Register for Historic Places..
